Faith and Liberty Trail App
Gold Davey Award-winning app with interactive walking trails detailing historic Philadelphia sites and events
Overview
In 2021 I was drafted by Superfriendly to join their team as a copywriter, since their work with the Faith & Liberty Center had expanded to include an interactive trail app. They had encountered some blocks on the client side for copy and needed someone to jump in to write the stories behind the trails within a short timeframe. The app was to be centered around these stories.
Challenges
- A short timeline to define a series of walkable trails, including historical research for markers
- Same short timeline to write a short story behind the trail incorporating the thematics, landmarks and historic characters involved
- Reconciling the work with the client once their internal blockers were smoothed out
- Ensuring the UX/UI flowed properly to serve the narrative
Solutions
Working closely with the CD and the Project Lead, we quickly defined twelve subjects that would serve as the basis for the trails, spanning subjects like the founding of the United States of America, Abolitionism, past epidemics, and more. I then dove into a what felt like a graduate degree in History to define the landmarks that would form part of the trails and write a cohesive story that users could read as they experienced the trail, along with blurbs for every character and landmark featured.
I was then able to work with the design team to troubleshoot the UX to keep the narrative front and center in the users’ experience as they explored the trails.
“Jordi turned out to be an amazing asset to bring on this project when we needed someone skilled in storytelling, with Content Strategy experience and able to knock out the stories in a tight timeline.”
